Warwick pupil is rewarded for fire safety
Warwick pupil, Hannah Coggins is being commended for taking part in the Junior Fire Safety Citizen Scheme at Newburgh Primary School, Warwick.
To become a Junior Fire Safety Citizen, Hannah had to carry out a home fire safety check at the home of an elderly friend or relative, checking key elements such as whether they have a smoke alarm fitted in their home. The check also incorporated electrical safety issues which included checking the home for overloaded plug sockets and switching off electrical items when not in use.
To recognise this achievement, Hannah will be presented with a certificate during her school assembly. She will also be presented with a £25 WHSmith gift voucher after being picked out of the monthly prize draw.
Schools Liaison Officer, Ruth Greenhalgh said:
“We are really pleased to be presenting Hannah with her prize. As part of the scheme, Hannah not only carried out a home fire safety check, but she also put a referral through to us so that firefighters could fit free smoke alarms. By doing this, Hannah has shown a real understanding of the key fire safety issues in the home which in itself is a real achievement, so well done Hannah!”
Cllr Richard Hobbs, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection, said:
“The Junior Fire Safety Citizen Scheme which is backed by the Electrical Safety Council has already proven to be a real success with young people across Warwickshire. I would like to congratulate Hannah on receiving her prize and hope that more young people will now get involved with this very worthwhile scheme.”
