Red Box Lottery – Textiles
More residents of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and North Warwickshire Borough Council have won £50 by simply recycling their rubbish.
The Red Box Lottery, which ran from December to the end of January, gave residents the chance to win by putting their recycling out for collection.
The latest lucky winners were Mrs Mamoojee from Nuneaton and Dean Sherratt from Mancetter in North Warwickshire.
The Sherratt family said they were making good use of the new recycling service for plastics and cardboard and said they have much less rubbish now in their black bin. Their prize was £50 vouchers for the Tamworth Snowdome.
Mrs Mamoojee, who also received £50 worth of vouchers, said: “The children help sort out all of the recycling into the different bags and boxes in our house and they are very keen to recycle. They really enjoy it!.”
Councillor Bill Sheppard, portfolio holder for the environment at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, added: “Congratulations to Mrs Mamoojee, our sixth red box lottery winner. I hope residents will continue to use the pink textiles bag, as recycling old clothing not only provides environmental benefits, but social and economic benefits too.”
Did you know?
Over one million tonnes of textiles are thrown away every year, of which only 25 per cent are recycled.
You can place clothing, belts, shoes (paired), blankets, handbags and curtains into your pink bag. Even textiles that are damaged (clean) can still be recycled. This material is shredded and then used as mattress filling, insulation and soundproofing for cars.
