A better bus service
Stratford’s number 222 bus route will undergo some improvements later this month after concerns were raised by passengers about reliability and timing.
The service has encountered problems caused by traffic congestion in Stratford at peak times, particularly on Birmingham Road. A new route will be introduced from Monday 28 February to make the service quicker and more reliable.
The existing route takes the service along Birmingham Road in both directions and the bus is often caught up in rush hour traffic. Warwickshire County Council has decided to address these issues with the operator Johnsons Excelbus and make improvements to the route and timetable.
Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder responsible for Environment and Economy, said: “Traffic congestion in Birmingham Road at times severely affects the reliable operation of the 222 bus.
“Residents in the parts of the town served by the bus need a service they can depend on, and these route and timetable changes are designed to improve reliability and timing. We will keep it under review and make further changes if necessary.”
From 28 February the 222 bus from the town will, after serving Morrisons supermarket, use Arden Street, and then into Clopton Road to resume its present route by turning into Blue Cap Road, Blackthorn Road, Maidenhead Road, Mayfield Avenue, St Marys Road, Jolyffe Park Road, Clopton Road, Justins Avenue, Woodlands Road, Elm Road, Justins Avenue and then Birmingham Road back towards town.
The new route will only use Birmingham Road once. There are, as a result of this route alteration, some timetable changes mostly involving a four minute later departure time during the main part of the day.
The revised 222 bus timetable can be viewed on the web by visiting http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/bustimetables and looking under Forthcoming and Recent Bus Service Changes.
Stagecoach, which operates the 19 bus service commercially in the town, is intending to change its route and timetable from the same date.
