Girls’ Choir perform at national concert venue

The Warwickshire County Girls’ Choir thrilled a packed audience at the Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on Monday 31 January.

Performing as guest soloists at a West Midlands Sing Up celebration concert, their voices filled the huge hall with their tone quality described in the BBC Choir of the Year recently as ‘lovely, energetic and giving a great performance’.

Parents and vocal professionals praised the girls’ performance which included renditions of Lightning by Greg Gilpin and Fever. One audience member complimented the girls and said: “The girls’ choir was fantastic. The programme was brilliant and the girls performed confidently and with such a beautiful sound. Good luck for the future with the group.”

The choir rehearse weekly in five area groups and come together twice a term. They are forging prestigious links including a concert with the girls’ choir at Lichfield Cathedral where they shall be performing early in May.

Sheila Russell, Head of Voice and Choral for the County Music Service, said: “The County Girls now has over 90 members and is still growing in all areas of Warwickshire.

“This concert performance involving 50 of the girls ensured that we are now highly respected regionally and nationally and we are preparing for even more exciting events and achievements in the future.”

The Sing Up! Celebration Concert saw 14 music services from across the West Midlands work together on a whole day’s worth of singing activities.  Nearly 4000 children and over 400 teachers and helpers celebrated the joy of singing together.

Future activities for Warwickshire Girls’ Choir include a residential course in Northamptonshire and a concert at Lichfield Cathedral. “New members are always welcome!” said Sheila.
