Booker Prize Finalist Emma Donoghue to visit Warwick Library
Warwick Books and Warwickshire Libraries and Information Service, as part of their ‘Meet The Author’ series, are bringing international best-selling author Emma Donoghue to Warwick Library next week..
The free event, part of the library’s Meet the Author series of talks by leading writers, takes place on Tuesday 15 April at 7.00pm. Other authors set to feature in later dates include psychological thriller writer Sophie Hannah.
Emma Donoghue is an Irish novelist whose bestselling book ‘Room’ has won a raft of awards including the Irish Book Award and been shortlisted for the Governor General’s Awards in her adopted home country, Canada. It is the seventh book she has had published in a career spanning over 15 years.
Specialising in creating historical novels, often using a real life event as inspiration, Donoghue will talk about ‘Room’. After a bidding war between publishers attracted a great deal of media attention around the world, it quickly became one of the most talked about books of 2010 before a word had even been printed. Its subject matter, mirroring real-life long-term kidnappings such as the Fritzl case in Austria, ensured that it remained very much in the spotlight.
Keith Smith of Warwick Books said “We are extremely lucky that Emma has chosen to come to Warwick as part of her nationwide tour. We have worked very hard to put together a fantastic series of author visits this year and this is reflected in our first event.”
Kate Mackie of Warwickshire Libraries said “We are delighted to work with Warwick Books to bring events of the highest quality to Warwick, and we all look forward to meeting Emma.”
Tickets are free and available from Warwick Library, Warwick Books and Kenilworth Books. This event is the first in a series of great events organized by Warwick Books for their Spring 2011 programme (see http://www.warwickbooks.net).
