Handy help around the home
Warwickshire County Council has launched a new scheme to help families caring for disabled children with small jobs around the home.
HandyFix.it is a handyperson service offered for families, who must live in Warwickshire, and have a child under 19 living at home to help with minor household improvements.
For at a subsidised rate of £5 per hour, families can get help from an experienced team of handy people with small jobs such as moving furniture, fixing fences, fitting grab rails or hanging doors. The service is unable to carry out any gas or electrical related work.
Any eligible family interested in applying for support through the scheme should call 01926 458131 for more information.
The service is offered in conjunction with Age UK Warwickshire and Adult Services at Warwickshire County Council. It is funded through the county council’s Integrated Disability Service’s Aiming High Programme.
Lynne Barton Head of the Integrated Disability Service said: “This is a fantastic service designed by families for families and I am extremely pleased that we can support it. Caring for a disabled child is often a challenging role so it is great to be able to offer this extra support around the home.
“We have always listened closely to the needs of our families when planning elements of the Aiming High Programme and have incorporated their needs and wishes in the services we have been able to deliver.”
The Aiming High programme was set up with the Government’s Aiming High for Disabled Children. Since 2009 it has enabled families with disabled children to access a range of opportunities such as enhanced support for parents, short family breaks, holiday programmes and after school activities for young people.
