British Sea Power bring energy to Rugby

Eclectic indie-rock group, British Sea Power, have announced that they will be bringing the sights and sounds of their critically acclaimed new album, ‘Valhalla Dancehall’, to Rugby Library on Friday 4 March.

The band, who are currently headlining their own UK tour and have recently supported the Manic Street Preachers, have added the library date to their schedule in support of the ‘Get It Loud In Libraries’ campaign.

With lyrical references to local libraries in their songs – and a penchant for playing unusual venues – it’s perhaps unsurprising that Rugby Library, which is quickly establishing itself as a music venue, attracting the likes of Plan B, was chosen by the band.

The music press has called their latest album “divine” (Q magazine), “one of the earliest contenders for album of 2011” (NME) and “2011’s first outstanding guitar album” (Music Week).

Tickets for the gig are £11.50 from Rugby Library or can be bought online at http://www.seetickets.com.

The British Sea Power gig is the first of two to take place at the library in March. On Tuesday 8 March, hotly-tipped new electro pop act Spark will be sharing the stage with The Good Natured. Tickets for that gig are just £5 and are also available from Rugby Library or at http://www.seetickets.com.

‘Get It Loud In Libraries’ is a unique project designed to give young people who love music “a damn good time” in libraries around the UK, according to the campaign’s organisers.

The project originated in Lancaster Library and has subsequently spread to other libraries around the United Kingdom, including Rugby Library in Warwickshire, with the support of Warwickshire County Council’s Library and Information Service.

According to the campaign organisers, the advantages of seeing artists perform in your local library are that there are “no age restrictions, no spilt beer, no smoke in your eyes, no rip-off ticket prices - just good music from award winning indie bands.”
