Catch John knapping at Warwick Museum
Families are being invited to a special free exhibition day at Warwickshire Museum to discover what the county was like before the Romans came.
Called ‘Good cave keeping – home living in ancient Britain’ the exhibition will explore Warwickshire from 12,000BC to 430AD.
The family day will take place on Saturday, March 12, from 10am until 4pm, at the Warwickshire Museum in Market Square, Warwick. Entry is free.
The event is linked to the BBC’s Hands on History campaign and television series ‘A History of Ancient Britain’.
It will also provide an opportunity to meet John Lord, who featured on episode one of the programme. John will be at the Museum all day demonstrating the ancient technique of making flint tools, called flint knapping.
The event will also provide an opportunity to chat to experts about ancient Warwickshire and how people used to live during this period.
Experts will include: Archaeologists from Archaeology Warwickshire; The Warwickshire Geological Conservation Group; The Museum’s Geology, Archaeology and Natural history experts; Warwickshire Historic Environment Record; WCC Heritage Education; Paul Harding from Discover History.
There will also be plenty of fun activities for families, who will be invited to join in painting a ‘museum cave’, follow a family trail and meet costumed interpreters.
Face painting will also be available at £1 per person.
