Family photos go to waste

Meticulous staff at Princes Drive Household Waste Recycling Centre in Leamington have found a camera in a skip containing precious family photos including pictures of a 100th birthday party.

The camera was discovered as staff from site manager HW Martin Waste Ltd sorted waste from bags of rubbish in the skips.

Warwickshire County Council, which owns the site, is looking to reunite the camera with its rightful owner who may have thrown it away by mistake.

The bag was found just after Christmas but has been kept at the site office while staff waited to see if anyone returned to collect it.

The camera is a Kodak Easyshare and contained photos that included a wedding, days out, helicopters and a 100th birthday party.

Glenn Fleet, Warwickshire County Council’s Group Manager, Waste Management, said: “This camera obviously contains some treasured family memories and it is likely that it has been thrown out by mistake. We are appealing for the owner of this camera to come forward so that we can return it to its rightful owner.”

It is not the first time staff at the Princes Drive Household Waste Recycling Centre have gone beyond the call of duty. Last April a visitor inadvertently lost his wedding ring in one of the skips. The staff painstakingly spent two days sifting through its contents to find it and reunite the ring with its owner.
