Funeral of British soldier to take place in Warwick
The funeral of Private Conrad Lewis of 4th Battalion Parachute Regiment will take place today (Friday 4 March) at 1pm at St Mary's Church, Warwick.
Private Lewis, a former Claverdon Primary School pupil, was tragically killed during a firefight in Helmand Province, in Afghanistan on 9 February.
Private Lewis will receive a full military funeral, which will result in some road closures around St Marys Church. At 12 noon Northgate Street will be closed to traffic, the road will re-open when the funeral service has started, and will remain open until five minutes before the end of the service when it will be closed again. At 2.30pm the funeral cortege will form up along Church Street / Northgate Street.
Before departure, the guard of honour will form up outside St Mary’s Church and fire a gun salute of three blank rounds. The cortege will then proceed past the war memorial on Church Street, pausing for a minute’s silence, before leaving Warwick for the private burial service.
Cllr Alan Farnell, leader of Warwickshire County Council said: "On behalf of the County Council, I would like to extend my most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Private Lewis at this very sad time."
