A honking good show

North Leamington School will host two County Music Service music theatre performances later this month.

Inspired by Hans Christian Anderson’s well-loved tale The Ugly Duckling, Honk! Junior will be performed on Friday 25 and Saturday 26 March by young people aged 9-18 from Warwickshire’s central Area Music Centre musical theatre groups.

Honk! Junior is the story of Ugly, a farmyard ‘duckling’ whose odd looks incite prejudice from his family and neighbours. Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry cat, Ugly must find his way, while his mother, Ida, searches for him. Along his journey he not only discovers his true beauty, but he also finds love and acceptance.

Simon Grimshaw, Area Music Centre Manager said: “I’m really excited to bring this popular musical to Warwickshire courtesy of Music Theatre International. The young people involved, including a stage choir drawn form Brookhurst, Clinton, and Milverton primary schools, had a lot of fun with the project which offers a great opportunity for them to showcase their acting and singing.”

The performances on Friday 25 March and Saturday 26 March will be held at North Leamington School on Sandy Lane starting at 7pm. Tickets, priced at £5 adults, £4 Senior Citizens, £3 for children or £14 for a family of 4, are available from the County Music Service, please call 01926 742630 for details.
