Schools celebrate religious education
Teachers and pupils from Warwickshire schools will be visiting the Gurdwara in Leamington on Friday 25 March 2011 to take part in a special celebration of religious education.
Pupils from primary and secondary schools will demonstrate the importance of religious education through different performances including song, dance and poetry at the event from 1.30pm to 3.00pm at the Leamington Gurdwara.
The Bishop of Coventry, Reverend Christopher Cockworth, will also join the celebrations as guest speaker to talk about the importance of religious education and its contribution to the personal development of young people and the community.
Winners of a competition, organised by Warwickshire Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE) in association with Warwickshire County Council, will also be announced at the event.
Schools were invited to submit details of an activities involving the wider community, such as trips to a local place of worship, religious education trails or inviting visitors into the school to talk about their faith.
Entries had to demonstrate the impact this activity has had upon pupils and how this has contributed to their learning experiences and understanding of cultural diversity.
Teacher and pupil awards will be presented to schools in each of the four education key stages with additional awards offered for demonstrating inclusion, a whole school approach and originality and innovation.
Ruth Waterman helped organise the event on behalf of Warwickshire County Council, she said: “The standard of competition entries received was extremely high and we would like to thank and congratulate all those schools who entered.”
