Ofsted success for Ettington

Children, parents and teachers celebrated their recent Ofsted inspection last week at Ettington C of E Primary school following the great news that the school has gone from ‘satisfactory’ to ‘good with elements of outstanding’.

To top off a successful week of creativity, on Friday children gave performances of dance from around the world and celebrated the Ofsted judgement. Ofsted officers complemented the school on their use of the creative curriculum to bring learning to life.

Head Teacher, Rosemary Edwards said: “We were last inspected by Ofsted in 2007, weeks after I first started at the school and were graded satisfactory. It was clear to me that this school had so much potential and that a satisfactory judgement would not be a true reflection of the school for long.

“Excellent teamwork from children and staff alike has underpinned our success. It has been hard work - but what a result. I am immensely proud of my team and I would just like to thank them all for their dedication.”

Almost all parents and carers (97 per cent) recently surveyed by Ofsted said their children enjoyed Ettington School, and inspectors quoted attendance as outstanding.

The inspectors summarised in the report that “the school has made rapid progress since its last inspection, particularly in quality of teaching and learning in Key Stage 1, resulting in a clear upward trend in the attainment of all pupils, so that pupils in year 6 are achieving attainment significantly above the national average”.

Ettington School has an excellent record of children passing 11+ exams with 5 pupils out of a class of 26 receiving selective school places this year, with two children ranked in the top 40. For more information about Ettington C of E Primary School, please contact the school office on 01789740236.
