Time for new play area

This summer will be play time for visitors to Kingsbury Water Park with the development of an exciting new play area.

Warwickshire County Council has successfully bid for £50,000 funding from WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd), to compete the project.

Responses to visitor surveys said that the park would benefit from having a new play facility to replace the small and rather tired looking play area near the Visitor Centre.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Economy, said: “It is excellent news that we will be able to progress this project at Kingsbury Water Park, our flagship country park. We receive more than 350,000 visitors a year and it is great that we can offer them something new and exciting this year.

“We anticipate that the project will be completed towards the end of the summer, so there will still be plenty of time for youngsters to enjoy the new facility during the good weather.”

The new play area will recycle some of the equipment from the old play area in the shape of the existing tower, swings and using part of the old slide in a new and exciting way. The new play area will be situated between the main car park, and Bodymoor Heath Water. The ranger team and volunteers have been busy clearing the area, and there are now wonderful views through the trees to the water, and the wildfowl are even exploring this new area of the park which has been opened up.

The Country Parks team are in the process of selecting the company to provide the new play equipment, and the initial plans are eye-catching.  A display will be up in the Visitor Centre for people to look at as soon as the county council can confirm the chosen company and finalise the project.

Unfortunately, while works are in progress there will be some disruption to the old play area which will be out of bounds for around two weeks. However, Kingsbury still has the adventure play area at Far Leys to enjoy, and once the old equipment is re-sited the play area will be up and running again for people to enjoy in its new location until work starts on the new play equipment.
