Hear our Voices

Following a once in a lifetime trip to Abbey Road last summer to record their very own song, The Careblings reunite to launch their CD.

The Careblings are all young carers, or siblings of children with disabilities, aged 8-16, from Warwickshire.  They wrote ‘Hear our Voices’ about their experiences of being a carer or living with a family member who has a disability or debilitating illness.

The music and lyrics were put together by the children last year at a music workshop organised by the county council’s Integrated Disability Service (IDS). It was later produced professionally by Ian Grimble at Abbey Road recording studios.

The 25 youngsters, their parents, carers and invited guests will get together for a special celebration of ‘Her our Voices’ next Tuesday evening in Nuneaton. At the event the CD will be played and a DVD of the young people’s time at the recording studio will be shown.

The young people will arrive at Purley Chase Golf Club in style in stretch limousines and following the performance showcase they will enjoy a buffet and a disco.

Warwickshire County Council Social Care Worker, Cathy Griffin, has been involved in the project from start to finish, she said: “We hope the young people will enjoy the event organised for them to recognise both the project and everything they go through as carers.”

The event next week is funded by Warwickshire Young Carers Project and Project Worker Kirsty Baxter has worked closely with the young people at each stage. She added: “The messages in ‘Hear our Voices’ ring true for so many young carers and we plan to use it as a theme tune for our work in the future. The evening will be an opportunity to thank and congratulate the young people and everyone else who helped to make the project such a huge success.”
