Kingsbury scoops another top accolade

Kingsbury Water Park has won national acclaim after being voted in the top ten best outdoor activity places to visit in the UK.

The Warwickshire County Council country park was featured in the prestigious ‘100 Great British woods and forests’ list in The Guardian and The Observer at the weekend.

Kingsbury was listed alongside Britain’s most famous woodlands - Sherwood Forest, The New Forest and the Forest of Dean. – in the newspaper guide which ranked its top 100 in ten different categories.

Cllr Alan Cockburn, Warwickshire County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Economy, said: “Kingsbury Water Park is Warwickshire’s premier waterside attraction. Receiving national recognition is a big vote of confidence and reflects the great work our country parks team has done to continuously improve Kingsbury and Warwickshire’s other country parks.
“It is an outstanding achievement to be featured in an influential guide amongst many places of repute, and this is testament to how our green spaces have evolved as high quality visitor destinations.”

Kingsbury Water Park, along with Ryton Pools country park near Rugby, has previously been awarded the famous Enjoy England Quality Rose mark which recognises the excellence of visitor attractions nationwide. The Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Scheme (VAQAS) is an accreditation from Enjoy England, the national official tourist body, which lists the best days out in the country.

The 600 acre park has a number of activities on offer for its 350,000 visitors a year, including fishing in its 15 lakes, cycling, a 5.7km bridleway, miniature railway, bird watching hides, an award-winning Camping and Caravan Club site, a flagship Outdoor Education Centre, sailing and jet ski clubs, a children’s farm and much more.

A superb new £100,000 play area is scheduled to be built at Kingsbury later this summer. The new play area will reuse some of the equipment from the existing popular play area near the car park, but will feature lots of additional pieces for the whole family to enjoy. The new play equipment will be set in the trees in a newly landscaped area overlooking Bodymoor Heath Water.
