Twelve members of the team tackled the trek to raise money for Barradell Looked After Children’s Fund. Clare Bradley (Fostering Social Worker) and Calvin Smith (Operations Manager) completed the total distance and ten other staff members formed two teams to cover the distance in relay.

Brenda Vincent, Strategic Lead for Looked After Children also took part, she said: “It was a great day which so far has raised approximately £1500 for the Barradell Fund.

“Colleagues and friends have been very generous in sponsoring those of us who took part and the money will be used to recognise the many and varied achievements of Warwickshire’s looked after children and young people.

“This may well become a yearly event, two staff who took part in the relay are already saying they want to attempt the full 40 miles next year."

The Barradell Achievement Fund is the result of the vision and commitment of Rob Barradell who was a senior manager for Warwickshire Children’s Services. The fund was Rob’s inspiration and launched following his death.

It recognises and rewards the achievements of looked after children and care leavers from challenging circumstances, who have shown a commitment to a community activity or interest or who have done well and achieved over and above what has been expected of them.

The Barradell Grant is an extension of the award scheme. Grants are made to meet the cost of an educational, vocational or special interest activity such in sport, music, drama, visual arts or travel.
